Norbauer Inc is an international Ruby on Rails consultancy, headquartered on Boston's North Shore, with fourteen experienced Ruby developers who passionately believe in beautiful code and simple solutions to technical problems. We are available for hire by clients who care about beautiful, maintainable code and who are serious about building sustainable businesses and non-profits.

I started my own development and consulting firm in India, which partnered with Norbauer Inc to serve our US clients better. So I understand the start-up mind-set (the pressures and joys building a company from scratch) which helps me understand the needs of our clients.

Web development (11 years experience)

Ruby on Rails is my framework of choice, and I've been working with it almost since its inception. I have created and managed the development of many open-source plugins and projects, and members of my team are Rails Core Contributors.

I am prowessed in a considerable breadth of web technologies, including:

  • Javascript (in particular the Prototype, and Scriptaculous libraries)
  • MySQL and Postgres
  • Payment gateways (I am admin of the vPaypal project at RubyForge)
  • System administration on Linux and FreeBSD (including user management, Apache, sendmail, lighty, mongrel, nginx, etc.)
  • Subversion repository set-up and administration
  • Enterprise Java and Oracle stacks

Test and behavior driven development

I and my team are experienced with TDD with Test::Unit and BDD with RSpec.

Management with agile and scrum methodologies

I have built my team from 2 developers to fourteen, all working together smoothly using an Agile approach to software creation.

We implemented a refit of this social networking site to make thorough use of Amazon Web Services, including using Mechanical Turk for photograph approval and S3 for remote storage and back-up. We implemented a spam-control system, new Javascript components, and a number of tasks to automate and ease the daily administration of the site, to cite a few examples.
